Minister: Reverend John Lindsay
Reverend Lindsay came to FPC in January 2008. He is a graduate of UNC Charlotte and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. John did post-graduate work at the Charlotte campus of Union Theological Seminary, as well as a Clinical Pastoral Education program at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte. Prior to coming to FPC, he was at the Riceville Presbyterian Church for 3½ years. Having been born in Kansas, John grew up in Charlotte. He joined the U. S. Marine Corps after graduation from high school, but quickly recognized it was not a career choice! In the intervening years he worked for both the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Department and the UNC Charlotte Police Department.
John’s theological foundation can be summed up as absolute dependency upon the grace of God, revealed to God’s creation through the gift of Jesus Christ. He believes God’s grace, which is the really Good News brought to us by Jesus, is our source of joy and center of hope. John Lindsay has a deep interest in the theology of Karl Barth, in the Gospel of John and in the Revelation of John. He is also enjoying an exploration of Phillip Newell’s works on Celtic spirituality.
Director of Music: Craig Summers
Craig has been involved in music at FPC Waynesville since 1998. He is a native of Birmingham, Alabama and holds degrees in accounting and music therapy from Birmingham-Southern College and the University of Alabama, respectively. When not at FPC he serves as the music therapist for hospice in Haywood County, lives with his dalmatian, and enjoys running, tap dancing, and fiber arts.
Organist: Marlene LeGrand
Marlene is a graduate of Queens College in Charlotte, NC, and UNC-Greensboro. She has been the organist at FPC since 2002. She is married to Drew, and has one daughter, one step-daughter, and one step-son. She is an avid sports fan – especially of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the UNC Tarheels.
Office Manager: Ron Tingle
Although born in Beijing, China, Ron grew up in coastal Virginia and graduated from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in the sandhills of North Carolina. With majors in French and Business, he went from college to the US Treasury as a data processing specialist and held positions in Treasury and IRS, ranging from the very technical to executive level, retiring in 2005 as Director of IRS Long Range Systems Planning. Ron met Janet in 1972, and their paths crossed again in the 1980′s when (this time) he had sense enough to ask for her hand in marriage. The Tingles have a daughter and three wonderful grandchildren, all local!
